Soulages Museum in Rodez

Our restaurant, in the centre of Rodez, is not far from the famous Soulages Museum. Pierre Soulages, a native of the region, is known as a leading figure in modern art. From an early age, the artist had a keen interest in nature, the environment and archaeology. Indeed, the discovery of Europe's largest collection of menhir statues at the Fenaille Museum in Rodez was a major turning point for Soulages. From the 1970s onwards, Pierre Soulages experimented with materials, creating textures and contrasts. Black was his preferred colour, which he painted on large canvases to reflect the light.

The museum is divided into two parts. In the permanent exhibition rooms, you can discover the works that Colette and Pierre Soulages left as a legacy to the Rodez Museum. As the artist wanted the museum to be a place of movement, one room is entirely devoted to temporary exhibitions. Works by Picasso, Yves Klein and others can also be admired within these walls of contemporary architecture.
